Astrid Undheim becomes new CEO of Trøndelag's largest bank
We congratulate Jan-Frode Janson, CEO of SpareBank 1 SMN, on the appointment of Astrid Undheim as the new Executive Vice President in charge of Technology and Development.

Changing pastures
Just over a year after Jan-Frode Janson took over as CEO of Sparebank 1 SMN, he makes his first change in the Group Management.
Instead of hiring a new economist, a technologist is now coming into senior management. This is a new position, where the new CEO comes in addition to the six who already make up the senior management team under Janson.
Astrid Undheim (39) holds a master's and doctoral degree in communication technology from NTNU. She has worked in research throughout her career and comes to the bank from the position of Vice President Analytics and Artificial Intelligence at Telenor.
New knowledge in management
- Personally, I believe that all companies, regardless of industry, rely on more technology knowledge into their management,” says Undheim who will begin in the new position on March 1, 2020.
That, of course, Janson, who has hired Undheim, agrees.
- Astrid has a solid background in the technology area and will bring us knowledge and networks that will help lift the Group's digital venture into the top division in the interface banking and technology, says Janson, who holds a PhD in industrial economics and technology management from NTNU.
- It is new for us to bring heavy technology expertise into the top management, but as I see it, Astrid will be our Minister of Digitalization, while with my background I am the Minister of Cooperation. Together, and together with the others in the bank, we will achieve a lot of new things,” says Janson.
Faster features
The banking industry has experienced rapid development in digitalization in recent years. Customers now rather check their account on an app on their smartphone than actually visit the bank, and Vipps has more users than Facebook.
- I want to work a lot with internal systems, but that will benefit customers. Customers need to get faster and better functions, and even more processes can be automated,” says Undheim, who is originally from Jæren but has lived in Trondheim for the past 20 years.
